Most of the time we have 4 workers, unless something special is going on.  Two brothers, who are the masons, and two helpers.  One of the helpers, Ramon (below) has been with the brothers longer then the other helper, so he gets to do some of the detail work like cutting tile.

May 3rd was Dia de Santa Cruz, or day of the Masons.  It's actually a national holiday.  A cross is traditionally erected on the job site in commemoration of the holiday.

After close examination, it was decided that the cross wasn't large enough, so they commenced making a new larger one

That's better!

They worked a few hours then we had a BBQ and Deep Fry.  We were going to have fish, but the fishing hasn't been too good lately due to red tides.

The Frying Pan and master chicken fryer Ramon.  We also BBQ'd, the fried stuff was a bit much for some of us.

Dia de Santa Cruz 2011:

Dia de Santa Cruz 2012, a lot of progress in one year:

Since most of the interior work is completed, we're getting ready to start the courtyard walls.  It took several days to figure out how to run the wall, but it's finally marked out and ready.

The footings are being dug out:

Before the footing trenches were completed, we needed to bring in dirt for the landscaping in front of the house.  Unfortunately we scheduled the dirt delivery on a day that the wind was blowing 35mph plus.  Lots of clean up the next day.

We also brought in a truckload of rocks for the landscaping.  The masons are inspecting them:

They were a little big to move by hand

Cindy deciding which side... is the good side:

Ten truckloads of dirt to fill in the front:

We're also starting on the upper patio shade.  I can't wait to lift the 14' long 8 x 8 beam to the upper deck!

And... the downstairs archway stone work is started.  Unfortunately we still need to get another order of stone on our next trip back to the U.S.  Nothing like this is available down here.
