Five months after placing the order, we finally received the roof tiles. They were supposed to be shipped to a trucking company in Cabo San Lucas so they could be unloaded, still on the pallets, with a forklift. Then transferred to another truck that would deliver them to us.
Instead they went to the tile store where one guy unloaded 5 tons of tile, by hand... they didn't have a forklift. As it turns out, it was a good thing they went to the store as there were over 70 broken tiles. The store had extra in stock to replace them.
Since the tile had to be re-loaded onto the truck that would deliver them to us, again by hand, we wanted to be sure they were loaded in such a way that we wouldn't have tile dust by the time it got to our house. The poor guy that loaded the truck took 10 hours to load 5 tons of tile, by himself! They finally arrived at our house with only two additional broken tiles.
In the same load we also received all our floor tile that had been shipped and imported into Mexico from San Diego. We had also ordered tile from an outlet in Mainland Mexico. After 6 months of waiting for word on the tile, we gave up and bought it in San Diego. It was imported and delivered within 2 weeks of ordering it.
While we were in La Paz, we also bought a bunch of mortar. A little miscalculation on my part. I bought 50 bags of mortar, weighing 20 kilos each. Great...50 x 20 = 1000 pounds. Oops... kilos not pounds, moron. Turns out the load weighed 2200 pounds and we still had to get 7 doors, 3o 2x4's, drywall mud, and a lot of other supplies. Needless to say it was a slow, HEAVY, 5 hour drive back home from La Paz.
Below are some pictures. For some reason the internet is running very slow so I can't upload any more until later.
